If the consensus is to add a 500 slot, I'd suggest "Devnet Pledge," "Devnet Pleeb," or "Devnet Rush" .. you know, something a bit fraternal.

I like it.

The only suggestion I'd make is something like "Evangelist" instead of "Extremist" because of the negative connotations that term has in the modern era.

You mean the negative connotations of the term evangelist?

They both have negative connotations depending on your views... Though Evangelist is used in programming circles so seems more appropriate.

Devnet Pleeb --- I like that better than pledge.

Yeah, that's the definition of Evangelist I'm talkin' about.

A person who is (a|an) advocate/promoter/supporter/proponent of something in a technological sense, not anything to do with a certain branch of the Christian religion.

I guess this word is also in that situation where it may be misinterpreted ( though, not for me... I don't associate anything seriously negative with the term "evangelist" ). But I think the big factor then is what do we feel would be the negative aura that is less objectionable in our target audience.

And as Maugrim mentioned, many companies in the tech industry have people titled things like Google's "Chief Internet Evangelist" or one used by many which is "Chief Technology Evangelist" or "Security Evangelist", for example.

You'd be hard-pressed to find similar usage of the term "extremist". And for good reason.

Another thing I'd suggest is we use "PHPDN" instead of "DevNet" because that was never this sites name, it's just an abbreviation of our URL. Speaking of which, it still sort of annoys me that at the top is says "DevNetwork Forums" and "The Developer's Network" instead of "PHPDN" (so you don't get something odd at the top of the forum list like "DevNetwork Forums Forum Index") and "The PHP Developer's Network", but that's a whole other topic. ;)

No offense guys, but this reminds me a bit of the debate people had when Lord of the Rings II - The Two Towers was about to be released and someone created an online petition saying: "Please don´t it offends the victims of 9/11". Sorry, but if there are people who bruise that easily, I wonder how they cope with life. Honestly.

Indeed. (my earlier remark was meant in an ironic sense)
