Hmm, I notice a bug in the OP's code:

}
It should be

if (($now = time()) > strtotime("24th december 2006") && $now < strtotime("6th january 2007")) //6th!
{ 
    echo "Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year!"; 
}
To account for the Russians' idea of when Christmas is :)

Set Search Time - A google chrome extension. When you search only results from the past year (or set time period) are displayed. Helps tremendously when using new technologies to avoid outdated results.
