2007 PHPDN Awards

Post by RobertGonzalez »

It's awards time folks. As is our general practice, we start out by selecting categories that we would like to nominate people for. I say we because these are the PHPDN Community Awards and the community not only gets to pick who gets the awards, but what they are awarded for.

So to kick things off, help us select which categories we should offer voting on. Please do not vote for members in this thread. This thread is only for proposing categories to vote on. After the categories have been reviewed by the moderator team, we will begin a new thread with the categories asking you, the membership, to vote for other members.

To get things going, here is last years list of award categories. Feel free to suggest any categories you'd like to see. But please keep things on a positive note and remember that the moderators will ultimately select the categories that we will vote on.

2006 PHPDN Community Awards Categories
  1. Most Helpful Award
  2. Best 'Code Snippet' Award
  3. Best at taking a thread off topic Award
  4. Most Unique Theorizer Award
  5. The Fastest Advancing Newcomer Award
  6. The Most Peculiar Award
  7. IATM Award (I Am The Manual)
  8. Most Friendly Award
  9. Most Funny Award
  10. Most Inspirational Award
  11. Best avatar
  12. Most thorough response
  13. Most likely to reduce strife

I just ran across this article that might help you and your feelings. It had an interesting insight...

"Most Random"
The "I change my avatar way too much" award (I'd win that :) )
Something along the lines of "Friendliest newcomer" or "Newcomer who fits in the best" I can't think of a good way to word it. :(

I think we should do away with:
# Best at taking a thread off topic Award
# Best avatar

and along the lines of Ninja's suggestion, I would like to add 'Most helpful newcomer' as someone who is relatively new to the boards that has helped this community and members the most.

Im with the spaceninja. Although Im new, and I know I wont win it, I really think its a good award.
I think there are people who put some REAL effort into their avatars and are really proud of them.
And in my books that deserves an award.

It seems a bit mean to limit some of the awards to just one person, especially for things like Most Helpful. We should have a "Recognition of effort put into the community" award that can be awarded to anyone who's done something worthwhile here, and not limited to one person.
