Sorry to be a nay-sayer, but I don't see any advantage to this. There is nothing on the portal page that wasn't quickly accessible off the main index page. Now I'm likely to just set my bookmark to the forum index page and never see the portal.

Perhaps if the portal were a portal to more services than just the forums I'ld see a use. The links to the other devnetwork sites don't count, as they were on the old forum pages.

having the recent topics is a bonus, at the moment its unfamiliar but im sure it wont take long to get used to. it does seem just a bit cluttered to me tho. only because it doesn't all fit onto my screen (i never run a browser at full screen).

Nope, I agree completely. I want to add some new features to make the portal useable. Basically, it needs to meet my needs as a Home Page for my browser. Things I want to include is the ability to search PHP and web development sites, not just PHPDN pages, and not just PHP only sites.

I am also going to add quick links to each of the forums, as well as a few quick post links, so you just click on a link and it takes you to the posting page for that specific category.

Don't apologize for saying you don't find it useful. By all means, I want it to be useful. Any other ideas?

I don't really like it. I'll just book mark the main forum index, as im used to working with that. But it is nice to see a change. Love this quick reply thing.

Jon2003: Any suggestions/urls for such a mod? I could search for it, but I am a pile of paperwork here that is begging for my attention.

Very nice. Was this all done with PHPBB2 or is the portal.php a custom job?

The portal is a mod. The link to the modder is the last link in the "Links" box on the front page.
