CMS Help

Post by hypercooljake »

I have been working on my own CMS for about 6 months now. It can be viewed at: http://www.undeadarmy.com and http://www.devils-lords.com. If anyone would like to help me out, let me know. You can download the source at: http://dcms.undeadarmy.com. This is also the homepage for my CMS. Email me at dustin@undeadarmy.com for more info or if you want to help.

What does CMS stand for? I've never heard it used before ( did you make it up ).

And after checking out those sites are you sure you mean 6 months and not 6 weeks? :?

CMS stands for Content Management System, like PHP-Nuke or Post-Nuke. and yeah, I mean 6 months. The bulk of it took like 2 months, and I've been adding and taking things out, and optimizing things ever since.

Well wouldn't it be better to do something which isn't "like phpnuke or postnuke" but maybe something in a different layout or style?

The 'main content in the middle with little windows each side of it' type of thing is a layout that's well over used at the moment.

Gen-ik, I agree, I am trying to create a new layout and am trying to break out of the idea that everything should be boxed.

Yar 'tis good. The best way to do it (as you probably already know) is to use the good 'ol pen and paper to design a rough layout of where you think things may go.

I normally do this using grid or squared paper ( with the fine milimeter scale ) to design layouts. It saves a lot of time if you get in the habit of doing it

I just recently bought a pad of grid paper, don't know the measurements but it is working out pretty good.

try learning how to use css to handle layout and style instead of relying on tables to handle layout.

Try learning?? Who the hell said we couldn't do this already!!

It doesn't matter if you use tables for the html layout or if you use positioned divs etc does it? If you get the result you want then that's all that matters. Anyway, which ever method you use any website still has a structure and it's layout still needs to be designed so I don't why you bothered to make such a stupid remark.

Why don't you try learning how to be less patronising then you might not make yourself look like a complete idiot! Now please sod off.
