not sure if this is the right forum for this, but i was wondering if there was anyone out there who could make a text based mmorpg/strategy game in php/mysql.

it would be something like alienaa.com, where you signup and can fight other players and can buy weapons and level up. and maybe have an admin control panel for the admins.

since i dont have much to offer, all i can say is i will put links to your site, or portfolio or whatever, and you will get admin powers in the game.

please email me if your interested. you dont have to be an amazing programmer but i would like it if you new what you were doing.

my email is moronicmunky@gmail.com

Why not just run one of the existing opensource games?

http://sourceforge.net/projects/lotgd
http://sourceforge.net/projects/promisance
http://sourceforge.net/projects/aatrade
http://sourceforge.net/projects/blacknova

Free, years of development, clear terms for use.. good stuff!

ive tried them, but some of them are zipped in tar.gz so i cant open them.

and they all seem to have the same thing in the game that i dont like. and thats traveling through a map/world. in alienaa.com your in ONE town and later can travel to another one, theres no inbetween exploring.

and thats what im looking for, a less complicated version of those games with just the basics, trade, fight, buy, and admin. but still has room for more improvement, casino, clan/guild, small/simple quests.

To extract .tar and .tar.gz files on Windows 9x/NT/2000/ME/XP use PowerArchiver 6.1 (freeware) or 7-zip (freeware).

Legend of the green dragon, by default does not. You start in a town, and you adventure in the nearby forest, rivers, etc - but return to town automatically, so its not exploring.

I think LOTGD fits your description nearly perfectly, and has over 100+ plugins and addons to "improve" the game beyond the default. Yes, including clans, casinos, and quests.

i checked them all out, but i was still disapointed. i was starting to like the legend of the green dragon, but the game ends whenever someone kills the dragon. i dont want a game to ever end, or a round to end or anything like that.
also the other 3 scripts(promisance, aatrade, blacknova) all were still too complicated.
so if you know of any more of these scripts that are even simpler than that.
i know im being scrict, but im sorry for that. this is what im looking for again....

an mmorpg/strategy game script in preferably php.
1 town, no huge map that can be explored.
ability to create a player, and fight other players.
ability to upgrade in stats and buy new weapons
1 game round, no new game after like 30 days. Just one huge neverending game.
and have a small admin area/control panel.

thats basicly all. since im looking for something so precise, im having trouble finding what im looking for.
so if you know of a free script like that or want to make a quick one, that would be great.
and thanks for telling me about 7-zip, it works great.

No it doesn't. In fact, many parts of the game only unlock AFTER you kill the dragon. Once you kill him, you start on a different path, and begin earning DK's (Dragon kills) - each with different benefits!

Some installations of lotgd have been running continuously for over 2 years.

i dont really want to use the legend of the green dragon because its soo complicated. i want a very simple script that i can learn from and modify on my own. i dont want to go through 300 php files because i dont think i will be able to learn from it. but if i have a small and basic script, with like 20 files or less, i will be able to go through them and be able to modify and learn from it much easier.

You aren't likely to find a small game with all the features described. Even if you were, I can tell you from experience that it is better to jump into a maturely developed application with a huge codebase than a simple, small codebase. Programming practices on the smaller items can be somewhat ify and usually the smaller ones are just started on developing, whereas the big ones have nice, older, maturer code. Even though it is harder to understand at first.

alright, ive decided that i cant just take the easy way out and try to spend all this time and effort in searching for the perfect script. so im gonna try and make my own game script. im gonna just take a simple login/register script with admin and begin adding stuff to it until it becomes a game.
this is going to take a while but its better to do it myself and learn then to use someone elses stuff that i dont like.
i'll probably be back to this forum for help on small parts of the script. but i think im going to mainly open the other mmorpg game scripts and learn from those.
