Hi folks,

A friend and myself (we are a couple of University students) are about to begin work on a community-driven website that we believe will grow to become quite a big thing.

Which brings me here...

We are looking for a PHP programmer to HELP us bring our vision to fruitation. We do not have money to pay a programmer, however, once this website is complete we hope to pursue several revenue streams. Therefore, if the website is a success, there will be pay, eventually! Thats where we have our apples staked!

The benifits that I see in this for our programing hopeful is that he/she...
- will enjoy building a project from start to finish, not to mention the satisfaction of the finished version in action.
- will get to input your ideas into the project.
- will gain programming experience for the resume.
- will get an idea of how a "startup" business succeeds or fails (lets hope not!).
- will earn some money once the project goes live... maybe a little money, maybe a lot.
- will get to work on a team as a founding member of a company.

The skills we are looking for in a programmer are...
- Good knowledge of PHP and SQL
- Knowledge in / Willingness to learn : XML, AJAX
- I would also expect that the programmer understand proper coding practises involved in creating clean and efficient code.

If you are the least bit interested in tackling a, in my opinion, BOLD project, please contact me so we can talk! We don't expect any money from you, just a bit of your time and knowledge.

Reach me at: grant.unsworth[at]sympatico.ca

Thanks guys!

If you and your friend would like to use something that is already developed then perhaps I could help by using ztml, which is a system that provide tools to build websites such as the one that you're planning on building. My partner and I currently developing a CMS called ezPortal using the tools provided by ztml. I'm sure it has enough tools that you could use to build your site too. If the tools you need are not available, you can easily create them by using add-ons modules. Let me know if you're interested.

Thanks guys,

Actually, I have already looked into things like ezPortal. I found that a Portal would require some major customization to fulfill our needs.

Isn't that is what your project is all about – to build a new site? Wouldn't that require some form of major construction (customization) on your part? I could be wrong, sounds like you think this is just too much work for you to do. But if you're looking for something that is already built then most CMS packages (including ezPortal) will give you a site that is community-based with very little customization.
