Community Built Website?

Post by mbtskysurfer »

I am not going to beat around the bush. I am a Network Engineer that would never be accused of being a web developer. In my job I work very closely with the Open Source community and enjoy the creativity that group brings to the table.

That being said, I would like to see what the web development community can do with open access to a website. I purchased the domain http://www.buildthiswebsite.com. The site currently contains tools to edit the page. There is a forum to aid in discussion and vision for what the community wants to do with the site.

Everything is fair game. The editor/file manager will give public access to the Document_Root for the main site. PHPAdmin is also set up to create and edit the MySQL database that is connected to the site.

I would enjoy hearing you thoughts about the site. Go easy guys, like I said I am no web developer. If you have an idea, please feel free to edit the page for yourself.

very interesting idea / concept.

I would love to help you out, but alas, I'm no developer either.

I'm sure you'll find several able and willing bodies here to help you though.

Volunteer Work?

Post by mbtskysurfer »

Burrito, thank your for your comments. I was wondering about your mod of my post to Volunteer Work. Is there a better place to put this post?

My concept is not for a volunteer work, rather for a site the community owns. If the community wants to create a website for people to build websites with, then so be it. If the community wants to build a forum it doesn't matter to me, anything is fair game.

I thank you for your time, and I look forward to what the development community can do.

I didn't move your post. I'd say this would fit in either 'Volunteer Work' or 'General Discussion'.

Neat concept. It could use a little explaining, but still a cool idea.
