Pro bono SOS!

Hello!
I am absolutely new to this so I am going to sound every bit as nervous as I feel about this.
I am a schoolmaster who wants to keep abreast of technology and all that, and have bought domain name and space on hostmonster.com.
I know what I want on the site ... the database, the functionality, etc... but I just do not know how to go about it (Everything I know about IT and computers, I have taught myself... and so there are huge gaps in my education...!)
Since I do not have ready access to professional help of any kind, as since I am very keen on developing this as soon as possible, I was wondering if there is any body 'out there' who wouldn't mind chipping in and helping me set up a site. I do not have money to offer, but in the spirit of the open source world, I will give full credit to the creator.
This is, I realise, a real shot in the dark, but then, I tried.
Thanks.
Rajesh.
