What are the open source VM solutions for Debian? Me and a partner are looking into offering shared web hosting solutions in a VPS fashion, and possibly Apache virtual hosting.

What kind of systems are available to us?

I have used Virtual Box by Sun.

I hear KVM is very good and flexible.

kvm is a really good one. If you are planning to use it on a linux system,i would definitely go with it. as for multiple or having a "virtual" system per user, im not to sure how that works

Creating a virtual drive for all of them is similar. However, ill now change my recommendation and recommend VirtualBox. I have actually been using it, and it seems very fast. It is also extremly easy to use

I use to run windows xp with a vm of fedora. I recommend to do it the other way around as it is more efficient. Now on the same computer, I am running Ubuntu and a vm of win xp with IE6 & FF1, vm of win xp with IE7 & FF2, vm of win xp with IE8 & FF3 - I can run then all at the same time, each on different desktops so I can easily switch between all of them!

The latest Ubuntu is amazing, I have always been a fedora geek, but I must admit for a desktop the latest ubuntu rules! It automatically setup the networking for the VMs, my multiple screens (4) etc...

I'm not sure about the rules on resurrecting old threads, so forgive me if it's frowned upon.

VMware's hypervisor, ESXi 4.0, was recently released in a free version. If you need a standalone virtualization solution, you can't beat it.

EDIT: oops... didn't realize you wanted FOSS... ESXi is at least free-as-in-beer :D
