linux + xp?

hi,
downloaded linux, took bloody ages but its done lol, so i was wondering what i can use to save my current OS :?

i want to have linux and XP on the same computer, is there a free good tool out there which can part the HD and protect xp files?

this is sort of first time for me...installing linux and all so i don't know where to get one, tried google but got some weird results 8O

anyways, thanks for your help.

Well, depends on what version of Linux you downloaded. Some are easier than others. Anyways, something like Red Hat, SuSE, Mandrake, or even Lindows make it easy to partition Windows off. On installation, they will tell ask you if you want to keep your Windows partition.

i got Mandrake i think...it took so long to download i forgot lol, gona give it a try tomrrow :D

Dual booting is quite easy with mandrake and is straight forward during the install. You may want to defrag before doing it though - helps to have most of the windows data in set places rather than scattered everywhere

Haha! "I think"? ;)

Well, you should be fine with most flavours of linux dual booting. Just read the manual that comes along with it (preferably before you install it ;) of course). Most manuals has a le grande section regarding this, Mandrake being one.

lol, you would forgot it too if you had to wait for 6 days to download it, i only have 150kb cable :oops:. got on 3 CDs now so thats good :D.
