Linux Power!
Sorry, with me reworking my site, I had no other place to tell the world cool things that happen to me (well, for those 2 readers I have...Hi Piera!).
Anyways, I really like Gnome, and I really wanted Gnome 2.4. So I decided to install Red Hat 9.0 and upgrade to Gnome 2.4 because SuSE isn't really a Gnome distribution. Anyways, I successfully installed Gnome 2.4 with apt4rpm.
Now, SuSE's YaST is excellent. I mean, it spoils you. Red Hat simply doesn't compare. And for setting up a multi-monitor system, SaX2 is just so easy. Point and click.
Red Hat doesnt' have anythign like that. So I had to setup dual monitor support on my linux machine by editing the XF86config file by myself. Now, I have been using Linux on the desktop for a year now, so I guess it was time. I found the XInerama HOWTO, and whle one or two steps weren't exactly the same, I got through it.
And when all was said and done, it worked!!! I was able to successfully, and relatively easily, setup dual monitor support on Linux.
Even better, I was able to understand the XF86config file. It's really not all that hard once you just spend some time reading it. It actually starts to make sense.
Even better yet, I was able to get VLC installed, and now my DVD players works fine on linux. Another yay!
All in all, a very good Linux day for me. Gnome 2.4 is just really pleasant to work with. Happy computing. =)

I expected more than RedHat from you jason... You should use slack (of course I tell everybody that though
) Download Swaret http://swaret.xbone.be and package management becomes as easy as RH or mandrake even. Personally I use KDE. It does everything I want it to do. Although, I enjoy the keyboard "Media Key" setup that Gnome 2.4 has (It sure beats using xmodmap and xev).. That was great when I tried Gnome for a little while. Oh yeah, about VLC I've never tried it (or heard of it) but if you're looking to try an alternative Mplayer is another great Audio/Video player (plays DVD,mov,asf,wmv,mpg,mp3,etc files) Find it at http://www.mplayerhq.hu/homepage/design6/info.html (and it even comes with.. yuck.. rpm's for RH
)
All in all I agree 100% with the title of your post....

evilMind: Yeah, Slackware was my first. =) Though, it was someone else doing the install. Anyways...
SuSE spoiled me. Really, its just a simple distro to use. YaST is wonderful, and there support for hardware is excellent.
I might try slackware again, I have heard lots of good things about it recently, and it seems they are picking things up once again.
Besides, be happy I am using Linux! I could very well go back to Windows (actually no. That couldn't happen, I have too much respect for myself to do that.)
As far as mplayer was concerned...it wasn't handling the DVD's correctly. I don't know why, but neither was gxine. vlc works though, and that is what matters. The thing I like the most about vlc is that it runs on Linux and Mac (though, I can't say I looked if mplayer did). I really do prefer applications that run on multiple OS's. Makes switching computers easier.

If you're going to run RedHat, be ready to pay for it...

I couldn't find the information at red hat's site, but i have the email at home. They have made no commitment to keep making a free version available.

Sami: No, that's false. Their won't be a 10.0 in a traditional sense. Rather, it's either free or paid for.
Fedora is the free version, and can be found here:

On another note, I have been considering trying Slackware w/ Dropline Gnome

Whoa, I was wondering what that Fedora thing was, never bothered to read it until now though.
