Post by JayBird »

I have just downloaded this 5 disc ISO to start having a go with this linux lark 8O

Is SUSE 9.0 Pro okay for someone that has never used Linux before?

Also, i need a tutorial on how to make my comp dual boot (WinXp/Linux).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

May I ask you where did you downloaded it from? I've tried some Torrents but with no success...

I think you made the right choice. SuSE is a very nice and friendly distro.

Login as root, run yast (you will love it) and follow the menu instructions. I'm sure you will find it.

Cheers,
Scorphus.

Yay, I used SuSE 9.0 myself.

As far as dual booting is concerned, you basically just install it, and it will setup the dual boot for you.

If you have never dual booted before, you're in for a hell of a time.

I spent 2 days trying to do it my first time. 13 complete HD formats later, I finally have it done. =P

Yeah, I was in a rush and ended up wasting more time because I did not reading all those tutorials and articles I found. lol Oh well, it won't happen again.

A+ Cert. is not required to do this, but for the love of all things php print an article and don't let it leave your side.

As Jason said, Suse 9.0 (and many releases before that) auto-install dual-boot. No need to to anything but be the DJ during the installation. SUSE's YAST (Yet Another Setup Tool) really does all the work for you, you just have to specify the language and some other settings. It even detects most Winmodems.
I am really impressed with SUSE 9.0, especially since I am using Mandrake 9.3 at work and it's nowhere near the ease-of-use SUSE has. A definite yes on "SUSE 9.0" for Linux-beginners (being one myself...)
