EditPad Pro has a nice Linux version. I also like PerlEdit from Indigostar as they have a Linux version. I know its for Perl, but you can copy the .xml file in the install dir and rename it with a php in the filename and then it will highlight you php. Their Open/Save to FTP feature is what I like about PerlEdit.

Also, there is like gtkPHPEdit or something, search freshmeat.

What's do you guys think is the best one for syntax highlighting?

I got a couple that do it, but I'm sure there is better ones out there...

I'll just throw in a couple that you guys might want to try.

Anjuta
Cooledit
phpMole
gPHPEdit

I like Nano too, which is basically an improved Pico. Much the same way that vim is an improved vi.

yada yada yada....

What advantages does Nano have over Pico as far as php goes? I have used nano before, but not for php, and I use pico on a regular basis for text editing anything.

ps. Pico is #1 .

None that are specific to PHP. For the list, go to the site.

Zend IDE and Anjuta!

Zend IDE makes me happy.

Zend got me all scared. They put out the Zend 3.5 beta for Windows only, and I was like "Oh <span style='color:blue' title='I&#39;m naughty, are you naughty?'>smurf</span>! No linux version..." but then they got back to me, slapped me around and said "Dude, it's just a Windows Beta...3.5 for linux will be there"

I tried Kate a long time ago ('00) and it sucked back then. Perhaps it's better now. However, I have the problem of not liking KDE so I've deleted it (and all of it's support base) from my system. I don't have the ability to check it out again.

Can you provide us a screenshot?
