mandrake 10 installation

Post by malcolmboston »

hello,

i just purchased a magazine solely for the purpose of obtaining Mandrake 10 as it was on the cover (in the form of a dvd) when i try to install mandrake (its a bootable DVD) the initial mandrake screen comes up verifies my USB controller(s) and then proceeds to identify my CD drive correctly whilst saying something to the effect of "looking for mandrake image on cd", then another screen pops up and says "looking for a CD drive" obviously its not on a CD but on a DVD, and my dvd drive is busy so it is defintely detecting it, the magazine claims that its a bootable DVD (which it is) and then everything is fine, whats going wrong?

i then went back into windows and 'explored' the cd and read something about some people have problems booting from CD so i proceeded tomake a boot disk, still the same thing happened, also whilst i was there i looked and can verify that the correct 'file structure tree' is in place :?

also when i open the file up in windows theres a few options one being install mandrake, when you click it it proceeds to restart the machine and attempt to install

ive had experiences with Redhat 9, which i paid for and will boot from the CD (its not a DVD like mandrake), but cant understand what the problem is, any insight would be great.

found this when i was'nt even looking for it
a site wrote: What's wrong with Fedora Core 2 Test2? Two things. The first CD fails to boot for a surprisingly high number of testers. Some of you might recall a similar problem with Mandrakelinux 10.0 Community, where a simple workaround was to boot from the second CD
unfortunately mines on a DVD so i cant do that

anyway i managed to install it by copying the entire DVD onto a spare hard-drive and doing a HD install, simple work around but took hours, anyway now having EXTREME problems with apache2 (which sux, gimme 1.3 anyday)

should have it all fixed tonight..........

well it just wont start the service anymore, i am currently using a "dual boot scheme" as i want to get it all working before i set up the samba server for windows access (my main machine), anyway i copied all of my sites and mysql data from my windows machine and pasted them in there respected equivalents on the windows box, now localhost isnt there

after inspecting the logs it says something like
error : 17 files found

well what on earth does that mean!?, i used exactly the same method when putting all my sites on RH9 and itr worked no problem

also, one thing i HATE about mandrake is that there is no longer a "services tree" like in RH9 where i could easily view my SMB, NFS, HTTP servers from a simple Control panel, its really infuriating as this would possibly make my life easier when getting Apache2 back online

any help would be great
