Hi,,
I've got an ftp version of Suse 9.1 personal and it basically has no development tools or libraries or compilers or anything with it. Everytime I try to install a package I get errors and conflicts which I try to resolve by getting the necessarry components but it's all just one big chain of errors and conflicts when i try to install these components.
Does anyone know where I can basically download an RPM package which is full of the most essential development tools and compilers so I don't have to carry on with this endless job going round in circles to get the tools? I don't care if it's full of stuff I'll never use... the more complete the better.
I'm not a SuSe user. I'm a Gentoo user. But I can tell you that you probably need to do more than just install an RPM. If you have IRC, I highly recommend visiting #suse on irc.freenode.net (I'm pretty sure it exists).
They can help you figure out what you need to do in order to have these development tools and libraries available to you. Good luck!
Also can try Freshmeat.net, or Sourceforge.net, or Google.
Usually, what I do for desktop systems is install all the Libraries and Dev Tools that come with the distro. May be you didn't do that when You installed? I dunno, I'm not a SuSE user.
It just doesn't come with any dev tools or anything. When you look around with google there are so many users complaining over the same problem.
I carried on installing tools when required and it now seems to have settled down and virtually everything will install without hiccups. Just needed a little patience thats all.
