Well, I have used Mandrake before, but never kept with it, mostly because I liked my wintendo, however, I am prepared to buy an X-Box (see previous post), so their is really no need to run Windows. I am quite capable of using Linux, and enjoy it.

As for what I like about it?

The freedom. Knowing what I can do, not what I can't do. Also, the thrill of new discoveries. I am a programmer, after all. Also, the tools are somewhat more intuitive.

Granted, their will be things I miss in windows (Homeiste, with integrated FTP and CVS support), but nothing that will keep me their.

The fact that I am here right now, running Linux is proof that even an idiot can run it these days.

I may take the giant leap into Redhat this weekend, but I'm scared that I wont be able to setup my DSL modem onto it...

I've used RH for a few years and slackware for a little while before that. Now I'm gradually switching my computers over to Debian and am much happier there. I'm planning to try OpenBSD later on a spare box. Haven't heard much, done anything with Mandrake before, so was more just wondering about your experiences....

Mandrake makes it easy, I tell you... just think of it like this...on installing Mandrake (Graphical install), it detected and setup BOTH of my video cards, so a dual head system was no sweat. :D

I used Mandrake for some time and thought it was fantastic. I still think fondly of the time using it.

Go Jas!

Cheers,
