When you say it stops do you mean you can't choose the correct option to go further or do you mean it crashes?

Hello,
When I say it stops I mean, I can't choose the correct option to go further , because I have no choose...not like others distributions, where we can choose between Grub or Lilo to load systems.
If you want, I have begun the installation as fellows:
boot: linux26
...................
...................
choose of the language -> keyboard -> configuration of the reseau -> ......-> installation of the Grub: here Grub began to be installed but
it stops at 33%, ok -> I can't go further.
But, by using, a DVD of knoppix, to see all the partitions, I have noticed that the Debian system had been well installed on th 2nd HD, so the problem is this famous Grub.
Therefore, I ask questions: what must I do in this case, to resolve the problem of Grub and continue my installation ?
Is there any solution, expert configuration to have a simple and kind loader as Lilo, because, really, Grub is a big problem, and I wonder, why It have been created to take place to Lilo?
Thanks for the clear answers.

Do you have some sort of boot sector protection enabled in your bios? If yes, make sure to disable it before you install (or update) a bootloader..

No I have not boot sector protection enabled in my bios.
I have succeded to install Debian, but choosing mode expert(expert26) and lilo as loader systems, installed in /dev/hda.
Nevertheless, when I reboot, only debian that is loaded by lilo, but not windows( I have not the choose between debian and windows I mean).
So I looked to lilo.conf, and I noticed that windows is well "registred" in the right partition(/dev/hda1).Then I execute lilo(#lilo) and I obtain this message:
Warning: the boot loader and the file map are not in the same sector.
What I must I do in this case, to have to choose between Debian an Windows at the reboot.

Actually, if you hit your tab (or was it the shift?) key right after the system post (when your system starts booting) you'll get a very simply lilo menu where you can choose the operating system you want...
I believe you have to edit /etc/lilo.conf and configure it that it always asks for a particular operating system to boot (or increase the waitting time before choosing immediately).
I can only advise to read the manpages or search the web for lilo.conf... I'm pretty sure you'll find enough information that explains you how to set it up
