sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-2.6.15-r5 package for emerge?
Can anyone tell me if there is a single server out there that carries this package for emerge? It would appear that there aren't any...
If there aren't any, I'm happy enough installing them without emerge, but how do I tell emerge that I've got them installed?

FYI: You can't do an emerge to recompile your new kernel from the sources... gentoo provide genkernel for that, but even so it's simple to do yourself if you have a little guide alongside
Oh no, I know how to recompile a kernel (theoretically anyway, I did it exactly once on a Fedora Core 3 system a wee while ago). Actually, the development is mostly my own OS kernel.d11wtq wrote:- I think I might have this installed so in which case I'll have the bz2 in /usr/portage/distfiles. I'll have to check to be sure it's r5 though.

It's just that there are lots of things, mainly drivers obviously, that need the kernel sources for one thing or another (this particular time, it's alsa - I'm determined to get sound to work
Okay, thanks.
I've upgraded using gentoo-sources-2.6.16-r8 from the previous link, and am currently sitting at a freshly-compiled system running that version of the kernel.
All works now.
Thanks guys.
(Can I just say I love the way Gentoo is based around compiling everything as per your wishes - there's not too much handholding, but enough to get you in the right direction - I must do a Stage 1 rebuild at some point
)
All works now.
Thanks guys.
