I have win2000 and redhat 7.3. It took me a week to get my modem working on linux. Linux was slower than win. Wine stopped working. In one of the earlier replies BDKR wrote that he had an msn client working (thats interesting).
I dont know I tried linux and there was a lot of stuff I liked but at the same time I realized that as a web developer there was no way linux could work without stuff like flash and freehand and fireworks. Gimp is cool but that isnt enough. I think linux is predominantly the tool for programmers.
I gave up after a month and formed the opinion that there was way too much to learn. Installing programs and doing maintainence is a big hassle, especially for a newbie. If linux is ever going to become a serious challeng to win ( I hope) then it needs to be simplified even more than it has been.
I think it will gain more acceptance if the educational institutions embrace it as well.
Thats my opinion anyway.
So I am considering nuking windows, and installing Red Hat 8

Red Hat 8 is pretty nice. I installed it on a new computer a few months ago (dual boot w/ win2k and rh
. From what I have experienced, the driver support is indeed a bit better than RH 7.2, and I have managed to get my video board (nvidia driver) and sound board (alsa driver) working with little trouble. It has definitely become one of my main workstations/servers
However though, after you install it, give fluxbox or blackbox a try

I will admit, the first week or two with Linux will be fustrating, but after you get the hang of it, you will love it and never want to go back to windows
