Linux newbie .. Having trouble installing

(Hence why i'm a newbie)
I just formatted one of my machines (desktop) and setup clean with Windows XP Pro. I setup 2 partitions with my hard drive, one partition to have XP Pro and i wanted to throw Linux on the second partition. Well, i'm not sure if i'm doing something wrong or not but I can't get Mandriva Linux to install on my other partition. I'm in the install setup and all that jazz, but i can't get past the part where it asks me to mount.
I mounted on the second partition but I'm not sure where to proceed next.
I know it's a tough question cuz it's difficult to do it without the actual setup in front of you ... but any help would be greatly appreciated!
