To have the net using the connexion of the neighbour.

Whether you are using Linux on the desktop or as a server, it's still good that you're using Linux. Linux related questions go here.

To have the net using the connexion of the neighbour.

Post by cheikhbouchihda »

Hello to every body,
Well, I had the net, there's so many mounths ago, but now, I have not because of a problem wih the operator, here at Amiens, France.
As you know, we are disgusted when working under Linux without having internet.
So, I ask, two questions:
1°)What I must I do to have the net, if we know that my neighbour who lives just next to me, is connected without problem?

2°)Which materials, must I use to have this connexion possible?
Thanks in advence for the help.

You want us to help you leech your neighbor's connection and thereby steal their bandwidth? I'm not sure of the law in France, but that's illegal everywhere else I know the laws of.

All I will say on this matter, other than be very careful, as like feyd said it is not exactly legal in most places (not quite in canada, as the law hasn't exactly been tested), is Linksys WRT54G (version 3 or previous iirc) with DDWRT firmware in client mode... if you are serious enough, that will be enough to get you up and running, provided you do all the searching and research yourself...

Mods, feel free to nuke this message if you feel that it's giving out too much info...

we don't condone theft... whether it is internet, software, music... whatever... this isn't the place to find the answers to those types of questions.

Hello,
No, I have not the intention to become a hacker or something else, but just to use the connexion of my neighbor who is a very good friend and he wants to be converted to Linux, from Windows.
In extange he wants me to be his teacher in this field.

If you are speaking the truth, and know enough about computers to use linux (and use it well), then re-read my post carefully, as that's all the information on this subject you will need to search out the information you need to do what you want to do... however, if you are quite literally neighbors, just run a network cable to his/her place and be done with it... (by running a cable, you pretty much are assured that your neighbor is aware and ok with you leeching bandwidth)

If my post didn't give you enough information to do what you need, then i would suggest not asking around here any more, as you WILL NOT get any further help from these forums on a topic that is quite possibly illegal (possibly only because the law hasn't been tested everywhere yet)
