Whether you are using Linux on the desktop or as a server, it's still good that you're using Linux. Linux related questions go here.

Internet Explorer in Ubuntu Linux for testing the layout

Post by wwwapu »

I finally got it.

Now it's even easier to use (or move to) Ubuntu. IE has been quite a block, because of its own interpretation of certain CSS directives. Now I dont't have to switch between operating systems to test something.

This is not meant to be used as actual browser, but rather to test your own pages.
I just tested it and it actually does same mistakes "real" IE does.
I cannot say anything about stability, but it runs on Wine so some chrashes are to be expected.
It installs IE6 and also some of the oldes versions of IE5 and IE4. I only took 6 and 5.5

General reasons to use Ubuntu
More lightweighted than WINXP with Norman Internet Security, which came bundled with my laptop.
I have to provide some linuxrelated support for couple of people.

Hopefully this helps some of you.

Please do not make this thread to be another Linux vs. Win battles. Internet is already full of those.

Just a semantic point.. this isn't an Ubuntu specific thing, it is available on all Linux, Unix and BSD disto's. :)
