Installing Linux on another hard drive

Hi,

I've been researching how to dual boot my PC to run windows XP and Linux. At the moment I've got Windows installed on my C: Drive but I've also got a G: Drive which is another HDD. I can access the G Drive through My Computer in Windows.

How do I go about installing Linux on the G Drive? I've deleted everything from the G Drive...

Do I need to:

1. Tell windows not to access the G Drive
2. Create a partition between the two drives

or will Linux automatically recognise the two HDDs as a partition when I install Linux?

I'll upload a screenshot of my computer management later...

Are there any good guides specifically for installing Linux on a separate hard drive which has already been installed?

thanks
Alex

Just format make sure you've got nothing of value on your spare drive and put your linux distro in. If it's anything like Ubuntu (or is Ubuntu) it will handle everything. If Windows recognises your drive then linux will, and it will format it for you and everything else. Once you've got both OS's on both drives it's a matter of sorting GRUB out - there's already a couple of threads about that around here.

If you have any trouble with your drives (doubt it) then download GParted, it's a great bit of software.

thanks for the quick reply :) I'll probably use Ubuntu since it sounds pretty easy to install and I've got a document about the GRUB loader so I'll have a go at installing tonight.
