I'm curious Kieran, who is your ISP?

Being in T.O I assume Bell??? You have to move west my friend, Shaw is in my experience lickety split!!! I had Bell for satelite TV, and their service and support sucked bum. Switched to Shaw...no more problems...although I've used Shaw for high speed internet since they first released...funny story...I actually received about 1.5 years of free high-speed internet back around 2000...because they kept offering me a free 6 month trial... :P

In the long run it worked, cause I've been with them ever since, so I'm not sure who got rooked... :? :P

I'm a proud Kubuntu 7.10 user. I was a Fedora Core fan until they started using Yum a few years ago.

I would venture to guess Rogers. We used to have Shaw back in the day and they were great until Shaw packed up and left. As of now Rogers is the big dog.

I'm on Bell Sympatico now, planning to switch to TekSavvy (theyre the geek-friendly ADSL in town) whenever I get around to it.

Cable in Toronto is both capped and packet-shaped, ADSL is not. I get decent speeds for N.A. (5MB), but it's no 100MB to the curb! Thats just nuts!

My sig and avatar should be a clue to what I use, but I don't recommend it for a complete beginner, unless you are very quick at learning.

Whoa!

I didn't know this topic was going to spread like this :)

Sorry I didn't reply, but I haven't been in the general discussion (or linux) forums, so I forgot about it.

100Mbps? 8O

I didn't even know that speed existed. The fastest I've ever heard of is 5Mbps with fiber optics, (which is not available here)

I get 2kbps on a good day. Was at a hotel, so had some better bandwidth.
