I use XP on my main machine and Gutsy on my laptop.... and I like them both!

Gutsy seems more comfortable for my ruby development (and the compiz is SEXY!!!), but XP still feels more comfortable for other stuff like photoshop, games, etc...

I just don't see a reason to ditch one completely. One day I'll buy a mac. Will it replace one? Both? The answer is most certainly: maybe.

I use it for servers only at the moment. I have tried using it for desktops several times, with dual booting and Vista - the problem is I always end up just sticking in Windows. Theres too much I'm comfortable with in Windows to make me switch to Linux.

i have no dobt that linux is the nice one for being the server but the problem is we have not enough knowledge to manage it and run it so we are forced to use windows unfortunately it is so rarely used in my country i mean linux

I didn't vote, because I wanted to pick all but one option.

First of all, ignorance is a reasonable short term basis to make a decision -- but not a very good long term reason. Learning Linux sounds like a possible competitive advantage in your country. It is growing and those who master it will benefit from that.

Also, I kinda got stuck on the word 'we' in the sentence 'we have not enough knowledge to manage it and run it '...

'We' 50 years ago, even 20, might have been hard times dealing with tech stuff due to the fact that the gateways spreading information wasn't fast enough, or even existing. Today however, with the internet and www and whatnot, there is no real 'issue' that blocks you from learning.

Unix, Linux, Solaris, etc. is not new anymore. Manuals, guides and communities about these kernels overflows every informationchannel existing today. And the hardware required to run each os is... well you can use windows so you should be able to run whatever in theory, so thats no issue either.

No, must say that I'm very much bahind arborint's thoughts aswell.
