I have grown quite accustomed to APT but have limited experience using RPM and Portage...

Which do you prefer and why? What benefits does it offer over any other(s)?

Cheers,
Alex

Fedora with yum and rpm's. Since yum and rpm's are what Fedora comes with.

Portage. I just feel more comfortable with it, and it offers great control should I need it.

Windows update...hahaha...

Why Slackware? I believe I tried it once when I first made the decision to give linux a serious attempt. Wasn't it like Gentoo, requiring a lot of custom compilation? Does it have a very primitive package manager?

It has no package manager at all.. you have to configure/make/make install everything.

That doesn't stop you from installing a package manager of your choice, however.
