Wondering what is the best OS and configuration

Post by loothecat »

For a LAMP server. It is an old computer with a 533 mhz processor and 300 somehting megs of ram. The bios age ends at 1999 so it fails the ACPI Cutoff. If anyone could find a tutorial or help me i prefer visual but if required i can use a server system just it is easier to use a GUI.
Thanks for the help,

I'm by no means an expert at this, but I'd go for something like FreeNAS (freenas.org) so you can manage it via a web interface. It's built for network sharing, and that's essentially what you'll be doing. I'm pretty sure it comes with http and ftp access set up as standard. Plus, it's built off of FreeBSD 7.2 so you have all the security of BSD.
