If you want to skip the troubleshooting, you could just try: http://www.uniformserver.com/

It's like WAMP but no installation, just unzip and run.

Just a warning when trying to use Apache on Vista.

I have tried to use uniform server on Vista and I couldn't get it to work. The same thing happened when I tried to install Apache. Something to do with the permissions, but it wouldn't work even when I tried to run it as administrator.

I must admit, I didn't really look in to it, as I just used my Linux box instead, so it might be something simple I was missing.
