We couldn't possibly answer that for you.

"Very Big" is a very ambiguous statement, as is "LINUX VS MICROSOFT SERVER"

However - as MySQL is native to *nix, and the fact that you could create your own distro with nothing but the core elements (the kernel + drivers) and mysql for Linux, I will hazard a guess that Linux will provide the better solution for raw speed. But for other features, including security, this may not be the case.

Difficult question. Linux is a common choice, and its grown a lot in recent years. But there's still a few Windows options available. Personally I'd prefer Linux since it's usually more dependable and upgrading it is quite easy.

It's something you'll need to research yourself before coming to a conclusion - check out the options, their relevant costs, and make a choice...;)

Google runs on Linux. MSN runs on Windows.

Both are capable of running very big websites and databases.

The best answer is: The one you know how to use best.

Actually in almost every case where that is reported, it turns out that it is a web accelerator (like inktomi) that is running linux, not the Microsoft servers themselves.

For a while, they did have some BSD servers running on Hotmail, but that was phased out and migrated to all microsoft products.

There is however, an internal linux testing team at Microsoft, and they run Linux to gain a better competitive understanding. Notably, those servers aren't externally facing.

Not a fact I wasn't aware of, but in almost every case, its not even a fact - its a mistake in querying. :)
