What operating system are you using? Do you have a copy of mysql on your machine already running on 3306? If you're on *nix what does /opt/lampp/lampp restart output?

If you are running XP Pro than take a look at the services that are running... Do you have something running on 3306? Is mysql already running? Is the port blocked by a windows firewall?
