I'm sorry to hear that you had to go through all that. Did you happen to read through the manual for installing PHP on Apache 1.3 on WinXP in addition to the manual installation steps also described in the PHP manual?
When I installed PHP on my local machine a few months (here at work) I installed Apache, then MySQL, then PHP, all according to the manuals' instructions. And everything worked fine out of the chutes. XAMPP is nice, but it totally takes away from your skillset as a developer, escpecially if you are ever hired not just to code, but to actually be able to manage the server.

Yes I did go through both the links you specify.
What do you suggest I do? Maybe I can try to install the whole WAMP again after creating my site, so I can learn.
Best,
Attraxion.
I totally agree, that is why I wanted to install everything manually and make it work. I actually want to create and launch my own interactive forum on the web, for which I would be using a web hosting service like Yahoo! small business. How important would the skillset of server management be in that case?Everah wrote:XAMPP is nice, but it totally takes away from your skillset as a developer, escpecially if you are ever hired not just to code, but to actually be able to manage the server.
