What's your (best) server configuration?

Post by potato »

Hey everybody,

like the title says: shout out your server configuration...
Just wanna know what everybody is using, and if you are satisfied of it.
Maybe also usefull information is: what is the use of the server?

freebsd, centos, redhat, fedora, ... ?

cpanel-whm, Plesk, ... ?

Processor?

dual?

ram?

connection?

extra software installed? (antivirus, firewall, lamp, ...)

Shout whatever you think is usefull.........

It's not the config, it's the usage of the server compared to the config.

For my development server, I use an AMD Dual Core X2 or something like that with 4gb ram and 1TB drive space. What makes the beast fast is using hdparm to configure the HD's and optimizing MySQL using my.cnf. It's not the box you have, but how you configure it for your usage...

1. it all depends what are you going to use it for.
2. if you will be able to handle the load on the server
3. what software/hardware you are most familiar with.

There is no perfect solution for any scenario...make one that works for your needs and you feel comfortable with it.
