PHP from an Alias directory

I set up a directory alias in apache
In php.ini, the unix include path was commented out. I uncommented it and added my shared folder to the end
The safe_mode_include_dir was blank - I made it
open_basedir is commented out.
PHP is served correctly from the document root, and html is served ok from the alias directory, but I get "do you want to save or open this file" for php files in the alias directory. I also can't get php files in the doc root to include php files from the alias (this is my ultimate goal). I would really appreciate any suggestions.
Code: Select all
Alias /mydir /var/www/vhosts/sharedscriptsCode: Select all
include_path = ".:/php/includes:/var/www/vhosts/sharedscripts"Code: Select all
