When you say install the functions remotely, what do you mean? Do you want to SSH in and enable the extension or ???

first of all thank you very much for your help(and in my other post about odbc freetds prob). Yes i want to SSH and then install it. I have been told that i need to recompile php in order to do such a thing. I also tried to use the mssql-php5.rpm installation but this one failed. I am quite confused because these things are new for me. is there a good tutorial or a link to help me. sory for bad english.

I am not sure at all how to get SQL Server to run on Linux. I am sure there are tutorials out there that explain the hack. I know Sybase runs on Unix (we do that at work), but I also know the two are still a little different.

I would google for SQL Server on Linux and see what you come up with.
