Problems with simple `change and save`

Post by dolke »

Hi guys,
after reading so often how great PHP really is, I have decided to take a plunge and see it for myself.
After installing PHP, MySQL and Apache I have fallen down whilst trying to configure Apache directory.
I am using Windows Vista notepad and everything works fine from:
locating httpd.conf file, making changes in it LoadModule php5_module c:/php/php5apache2.dll and few other changes and then....

I simply cant save the wretched document.
All I get is:
cannot create the C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2\conf\httpd.conf
Make sure that the path and file name are correct

This is driving me crazy now.
Why? Why is this hapening?
Please can somebody put me out of this misery and tell me what is going on??
I will be grateful for any advice that you can think of.
:D

i got that error message while trying to save from a remote PC. i was using a shortcut to my shared htdocs folder from a Vista PC. I had to actually go to the complete path \\comp.name\C$\program files\apache.di\conf\httpd.conf.

If thats not the case, make sure that you have full control of that directory under your username.

Thanks Guitarlvr
This is becoming a nightmare now. Since I posted the original message in the forum I discovered that one of the lines is corrupted, some info is missing and generally whole load of s..t is falling down.
Normally I am very stuborn and persistant in trying to learn how things are working but this whole php project is killing me.
Now I am trying to find on the Net a PHP to download only to see that I have to install some `keys` and check for authenticity?!
Crazy.
How am i supposed to know all this stuff?
I am going back now to try and figure what to do or else I will throw this comp. through the window.
Thanks once again for your advice.
I think it will come in handy later on (if I manage to find new dowload).
 Cheers
