Usually in the conf directory there is an example file names something like "httpd.default.conf".

Unfortunately, I have no such file in my conf directory. A system search doesn't pick one up either. I've looked to download Apache again, but it doesn't seem like i can just grab the httpd conf file...

If you don't have a conf directory then you should download again.

What is your Apache path on your machine?
