Tips for Installing/Using Zend Core

Post by eeve »

Hi everyone! I'm working up the courage to install the Zend Core platform onto my home PC. Up till now I've been FTPing my work to a hosting provider to test my scripts as I work on them. That's not too bad, but I've always wanted to be able to run PHP locally. So I thought I'd be brave and install apache/mysql/php onto my Windows XP (home edition) pc, and it looks like the Zend Core package would be the easiest to install and configure.

Does anyone have any experience doing this on an XP computer? Am I in for a big headache? I'm utterly useless for system administration type of tasks. Got any tips or warnings?

Oh, and how do I make sure the webserver only works locally and doesn't respond to external requests from the web?

Thanks!

Take a look at WampServer, it is an bundled installation that comes already configured and ready to work in minutes.

Do you have a comparison between WampServer and Zend Core? Why one over the other? A recommendation without a reason doesn't help much.
