Hi,

I'm gonna buy a text book to learn Photoshop CS properly instead of just playing around with it.

I'd like to be able to replicate hand drawn logos and graphics into computer graphics using it but I still don't know enough tips/tricks let alone what all the tools actually do.

Does anybody have any reccomendations or would you say web based tutorials are better in any case?...

BTW... a quick side note.. how worthwhile are graphic tablets for the price (and what size minimum is decent) - I've never used one.

Ta 8)

EDIT: Oh yeah... Does anybody know any other GOOD and almost mandatory windows based graphics packages for web design specifically (I don't like PSP)

Adobe's site has a lot of great tutorials.

Wacom tablets are the only tablet manufacturer that has decent products. If you want to do professional work, get an Intuos, the Graphires are for amateur/weekend artists... I recommend a 6x8 or 9x12.. use their tablet wizard to determine what they'd recommend though.

Photoshop is the standard for almost all graphics on a computer. Illustrator and Freehand (Macromedia) are great for illustration. InDesign, Freehand, and QuarkExpress are great for page layout. Buying the Adobe Creative Suite is advisable, as it'll save you a lot of money and get you a lot of great tools.

Just out of curiosity... would a touch screen montior (or even a nice portable tablet pc) be good for doing graphics on since you could draw straight onto the screen or is the dpi too low?

I wouldn't be buying one in the near future.... as i say, just out of curiosity :)

I have a few friends that own Cintiq's.. They are quite nice, especially now that the pressure levels are up to where the Intuos are. Their movement sensing was quite good when I played with them.

TabletPCs are nice, but the last time I played with them, they offered very little pressure response and sensitivity compared to "real" tablets. But they are nice when a portable media is needed. :)

Maybe once I earn some £££ I like my portable systems since i do occasionally move around a bit. I should be getting a 3G internet connection soon which will be handy for going on the move.
