Jasc Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop

Post by xudzh »

Other than price issues, what are some differences between the two?

I know that Photoshop has about 5% more features. But what exactly are they?

I have basically never used a photo editing program before other than Paint. So i don't want to start out too hard but want some cool features (mainly brushs and color blending). I'm not a professional or anything and won't create super-quality images.

Also can anyone give me a tutorial on creating images (not the tutorial on softwares,)

Thanks a lot

In my humble opinion, Paint Shop Pro is more user-friendly. When I first started making my own graphics for my websites, I did everything in PSP. I used it so often I'm reluctant to try out Photoshop let alone migrate.

Then I was forced to use PS under certain circumstances. Took my time to learn the software. Now, I'm a die hard PS fan.

I like how layers and effects are handled in PS. You can readjust the drop shadows after applying. I'm not sure if PSP has this new feature. I stopped using PSP at around version 7 or 8.

Photoshop is definitely the tool of choice but it is not for the faint of heart. if you're looking for a quick solution then PS is not your tool. The learning curve with PS is fairly steep (at least to be able to do cool stuff with it).

I'm by no means a pro at PS, but I absolutely love it. If you have some time to invest into it, I'd say go with PS for sure.

If learning time and money allows, Photoshop. If you want to go into more pro level graphics work, Photoshop. Photoshop is the golden standard. That probably won't change for quite some time, if ever.

I was planning to learn these this summer.
I read really fast, so time isn't an issue.

The last time I touch photoshop was like 10-years-old and i didn't like it at all (I was an complete computer idoit back then). I'll see. But i am certainly not an professional... it takes too long to create a quality image even with those good softwares.

Will it be easier if i learn Shop Pro first and when i'm more into it i move on to PS?

I've never touched shop pro, or whatever it is, but I can tell you that PS is unlike any photo editor I've ever used....so more than likely, you're not helping yourself by learning something first as a "step" to learning PS...I'd guess they're totally different animals. If you've got some time, I'd go straight into PS.

Is Gimp only for linux though?

I like photoshop... I played with PSP for a bit but didn't like it.

Photoshop is actually quite easy to use... if you just follow a few online tutorials through you get to know the tools quite well and can build your own quality images based upon that (assuming you're artistic in the first place) :D
