GIMP.

Photoshop is one of the few things I miss about Windows.

Photoshop CS2 for everything, Imageready for gifs, Lightwave 9 for 3-d modeling, and Illustrator for anything that involves clean lines or font.

I use the CS2 apps
Photoshop for design, Photo Composition and processing, color calibration, CMYK channell processing...
Image ready (only for some small animated gif)
Illustrator for advance vectorial (when I really need it)
then Flash 8.
For me Photoshop is one of the most powerfull tools for image processing, of course it depends on the use you need, sometimes GD make your life easier ;) but if you need to design, not just serial producing, Photoshop is just like water for me "can't live without". Don't speak about scripting and batch support!
My first version runs under Windows 3.11 when 1Mb of ram cost 100$!!!!!
It was an old Intel 386DX with a math coprocessor 387DX, 4Mb of ram, 1 hd 30mb, 1 hd 50mb It takes a life to do anything!!!!!!!!! LoL ...am I a fossil? 8O

Photoshop and Illustrator (cs2).

Don't really use anything else.. no 3d, and I try to avoid flash when possible... it's over-used as it is.

Fireworks is by far the easiest to use and best for web graphics.

Photoshop is very annoying, although I will use it if I must.

Photoshop gets it done. I also like Flash, even for simple graphics. I used to do so much development for it that vector graphics was all I knew how to do.

I had used with Photoshop, Inkscape, Gimp, CorelDraw, Fireworks, Freehand and of course Paint in the previous jobs I had or downloaded them out of curiosity (especially in college).
I loved Photoshop and CorelDraw but they are too expensive for me so I use TheGimp. TheGimp has long way to go before being on par with Photoshop but it' s free.

You need to download a free copy of VMWare, and run those two apps in a VM, and make the switch otherwise? :) Oh how I wish VMWare had a feature like Parallels Coherence. Its *so* nice.
