You certainly don't need a class. All a class will be able to do is either a) teach you the basics, or b) teach you how to do one or two neat things in-depth.

Just start by playing around - seeing what different things do. If you don't understand what's happening, do a Google search for some keywords & you should be able to figure it out. A book might be a good place to start, as it would introduce you to the basics of the program. Once you've got that down, look at online tutorials - they sometimes use neat tricks that expose the more complex parts of the software.

Sorry if the this post is considered digging up old posts almost month old, but wanted to give a little hint.

Classes, they are as they are, maybe it's different around your parts, but photoshop classes that i've been to are too pointless, i mostly followed tutorials around web and paid money for that, yea there's a tutor who would answer your questions but so can communities on web.

Read the tutorials on web, i've seen some amazing stuff people have done and rewritten them as tutorials,
there are lots of sites on photoshop tutorials, for insipration you should check out deviantarts artwork, theres some insane pictures.

You might also want to take a look at:

well, actually anything you want you can get by google :D..
