It doesn't matter if you do all the error checking in the world, or if you have the most beautiful graphics, if your site or application design isn't usable, it's not going to do well. Get input and advice on usability and user interface issues here.

Portfolio site review

Post by pickle »

Hi all,

I just finished version 1 of my online portfolio. I've had my domain for a couple years now and just got around to putting something up. I know it's a bit plain, but it's better than an empty page.

What do you think? Any suggestions would be quite welcome.

I think:
1) text size is too large, maybe 14px
2) I don't like those upper-case headings, maybe for contrast better use different font, like Georgia
3) Not sure, but maybe larger project images
4) Your photo? That would add more personality to website.

I like your choice of colors and that it's minimalistic.

1) Yes, 14 does look better. I'm not in a place right now where I can change it on the server, but fiddling with WebDeveloper does make it look better
2) I'll see if going serif for just the headers looks good, I'm not sure it will though. Thanks for the suggestion.
3) Ya, I'm not sure about that either. Larger images will increase the page size (right now the entire page sits at 75KB, which I like). My idea with what I did was to give a small idea into the general look of the design - the viewer can then go view the full site if they want to see more detail.
4) I don't have a professional looking photo of myself. Maybe I should get one because ya - that would add to it.

The colours were chosen while I was eating the 4th avocado I'd eaten in as many days ;)

Thanks again for your suggestions.

just a couple of observations:

- I don't like the fact to have a menu (upper right) and at the same time have all the content in the same page... even when I understand the menu usage it seems of no utility (IMHO of course).

- As the other reply stats... maybe a different choice of fonts/cases will looks better.

- And finally... the link of your first website lighted a big red alarm and block it on my Firewall... (Malware alert).

P.S: I do like avocados too :)
