How would you rate www.vlbjcas.com ?

It doesn't matter if you do all the error checking in the world, or if you have the most beautiful graphics, if your site or application design isn't usable, it's not going to do well. Get input and advice on usability and user interface issues here.

How would you rate www.vlbjcas.com ?

Post by anjanesh »

Hi
I've just finished redesigning, and redoing the php scripts from scratch of my classwebsite http://www.vlbjcas.com.
How would you rate my classwebsite http://www.vlbjcas.com on a scale 1-10, 1 being the lowest and 10 being the Highest ?
I do want the change the homepage though. Not the background image but the text part. Now those text are in News Section. And I have no clue on what to do with the homepage.
Im no designer though. Thats why the text vlbjcas on top is just html style and not some image logo. Im not much in CoreDraw, Photoshop though I do a little bit here and there.
Any suggestions are welcome.
Thank your very much for your time.

Voted: 5; its not bad...but there still can be some work done on it. Im not really a fan of the blue image that you have as a background on the home page.

Nice looking site, loads quickly and theres quite a lot of information. I rated it a 6.

I didn't manage to hack in through the login system, thats a good sign. But you do use the Roll number as the user name, and then use it to find the news that person has posted.. so I did get a handy clue. If I fired up a password cracker I could probably get in.

But I won't.

:D

Also, the news link goes to Localhost..

PrObLeM - Im not really a fan of the blue image that you have as a background on the home page.
Im no designer. This is probably the best design I've ever made till now. Cannot spend more time on colours etc.
onion2k - Also, the news link goes to Localhost..
Thanks. That was in Classmates section - viewing a profile. - Corrected.
feyd - forget to set a page background color?
For homepage I set only background image - no colour. For the content part in the rest of the pages - black over white is the best when it comes to reading.

The Primary Key is a UserID which I use for all queries. I could have use that for links but then I thought I wouldnt want that to be displayed anywhere at all. So I kept Roll No. Or perhaps I should encrypt the Roll as parameter ?

black on white may be all nice and good, but it's not set that way. You are assuming white is the only background color someone can have.. this isn't so.

Have you tested this site with Opera 7.54? I don't know if it is the browser or your javascripts, but for some reason the site disappears after opening some other window. Plus the links don't seem to be working.

Blue link texts with blue background-image aren't so nice.
Debrecated html attributes and elements used even if there is no need for that. FONT, align, height, color and so on.

Positive thing is it looks fine with lynxviewer at http://www.delorie.com/web/lynxview.html Possibility of some screenreader to understand the site is higher if the site is readable as text.

Unfortunately I'e not given a <NOSCRIPT></NOSCRIPT> version for this. So if JS is disabled it'll not work.
Tested with IE and FF - not with others.
