I have a website that's about to get migrated from a beta test to a production site. I'm a developer, not a designer; but I don't have a designer helping out.
I feel I've greatly improved the old layout, and I've gotten some very nice comments on the layout being clean/easy to read. But I do feel its still a little too "bare".
Here's the link [beta site with a self-signed SSL cert]
Beta Site of Ballroom Registrar
Things I've thought of doing:
1. Making the solid gray for the "stone" into more of slightly spekled gray
2. Add some kind of green/ivy on the pedestals of the pillars
3. Adding climbing ivy on the pillars (would need to eliminate the transparency effect on the menu/calendar then)
4. Making a real masthead.
Any other thoughts for how to make it slightly more visually interesting?
Advice for adding a bit of color

Hi nielsene
,
I agree, it does look a tad bare....
I like the changes that you are suggesting (especially the speckled grey)
but ensure that the load time is not compromised.
(Keep the theme consistent throughout the website.)
Also, I think that the "Result Tracker" needs to be neatened up.
Perhaps using a table for the output?
I don’t know if you are using paging for the results,
this might be a good idea so that the user does not have to scroll to far down.
That is, however, if there are going to be many, many entries on the page.
Perhaps you could add a slightly more advanced search ….
(I don’t know how or what to search on)
Graphs are sometimes easier to understand than numbers,
but again, I wouldn’t know what to show.
I hope that I am not just being a nag.
