look at in firefox, look at it in I.E... I originally thought well maybe the table is too wide and it's <span style='color:blue' title='I'm naughty, are you naughty?'>smurf</span> off I.E. so I made the table smaller. No dice. So now here I sit, desolate and alone. Any ideas? Or should we just ban I.E.? Or maybe firefox is covering my stupidity?

IE has a lot of bugs in CSS (not following standard = bug, yes), search google for css liquid design there is tutorials covering designing in CSS for compatibility among browsers
