New Website Unveiling

It doesn't matter if you do all the error checking in the world, or if you have the most beautiful graphics, if your site or application design isn't usable, it's not going to do well. Get input and advice on usability and user interface issues here.

New Website Unveiling

Post by jayshields »

Good evening :)

Ok, you could call this advertising, but it's not my site :) So I'm just giving you bored guys something to do and sharing my excitement.

One of my favourite local bands are launching their new website at midnight (GMT) tonight, and supposedly it's awesome (no ones seen it yet but I've talked to the programmer). I've heard all, or most, of it is done in PHP.

Anyway, the URL is http://www.thelongshots.co.uk - at the moment it's just a countdown until midnight when the site goes live.

Sorry if this is classed as advertising, but I just thought I'd share it, when it's live, post some opinions on it or whatever and I'll pass any constructive criticism to the programmer or get him to look here.

Cheers dudes.

:)

Okay, first problem, site doesn't work without JavaScript... oh wait, that's because it's a countdown. Hmph. At least could have displayed a little warning.

Graphics look okay...

6 hours. Hmm...

6 hours? Hmm, are you in America? It's actually one hour away from opening now.

Oh, and the graphics (the wing things) are actually hand drawn by the bassist :)

Pretty sweet design. The html is literally just a hair away from compliance on most pages.. tell em to fix it!

Honestly impressive.

Slick HTML too. Not so crazy about the fonts though.

Please can we be constructive. It's incredibly insulting to just say it's horrible without giving any reasons as to what you think could be done better....

Nice site, my only suggestion is to try centering it and see if you like it more that way.

In general it's too cramped, IMO. The nav links are too close together ... it just feels like one big block of text.

But I dig the music, and that's what counts.

Cheers for the input, personally, I think the graphics are nice, majority being hand drawn.

I got the new CD on now, it rocks :)

If you go on the band profile, my brother is "Sy Pinkeye", they are playing in Leeds on Tuesday, I'm off :) They're playing in Bradford tonight but I'm giving it a miss.

Yeah, the first thing I said to him was you should've centred it, and he said nah, but as a personal preference, I centre everything. If you haven't already downloaded the songs, get them, they're awesome.

I reckon he should've embedded the Guestbook into the website aswell, but a problem there was that the Guestbook was open before the website. If anyone in the UK watched the countdown go to 0, it auto-redirected you to the site, which was smoooooth :)

Oh, and I don't know if a Manchester tour is planned or not... check the Gigs bit.

I would suggest making the text font a bit larger I have to strain to read it.

Meh...

I personally hate scrolling windows inside windows...

The design is clearly not done by a true professional desiner...although better than I could personally do as far as illustrations, etc...

It's still not that "cool" which any band, tattoo shop, radio station should be striving for...

Here is a site of a wicked band and a much cooler web site: http://www.thousandfootkrutch.com/

Although i'm not Christian - hell I don't even believe in god...the band kiss some serious a$$ and they have a pretty cool web site to boot :)

Cheers :)
