Site Design Review

Post by Luke »

My latest design. This is the original site...

This is my facelift to it...

Please let me know every detail of what's wrong with it. I realize I had to resort to using tables for layout, but I just didn't have the time to mess with it.

I would start with making the links MUCH smaller, consider some sort of grid based structure (not rigid, just aligned intuitively), and not have so many huge images.. And please use a header font that is readable. I honestly don't think there is any usability/design advantages to your facelift at all. I'm not knockin your work, I'm just the first to reply.

Hmmm I'm not sure what the project requires but I would agree that the two sites pretty much look the same. It's like you took the same site and made a few adjustments. But there's nothing "wrong" with it. It's got the right sorta look. Here's a little visual homework:

What the customer asked me to do was remake the site basically the same, but without using images for every bit of text on the page like the first one did.

considering what your client wanted I think you succeeded. The site has improved, it's better to read the normal text. Maybe you could tone down the contrast a little bit. Although the contrast is important because it's light text on black background, a bit less would be nice. And maybe only on some parts. Maybe use some light grey instead of white for some of the borders or header text. Play with that and see how you can bring forward some parts and take back other parts.
