I need your advise to help my site from death...?

It doesn't matter if you do all the error checking in the world, or if you have the most beautiful graphics, if your site or application design isn't usable, it's not going to do well. Get input and advice on usability and user interface issues here.

I need your advise to help my site from death...?

Post by gaogier »

Hello, my site is not getting enough people, i want, the site, to be one of the best sites around. The site, is basd on, a fansite, for a game, called, runescape.

The site, has, 283 guides, and i worked out, it is ranked 7th in the amount of guides, but nobody is going on it.

I have added, the site to topsite sites, and we are ranked, 19th, fighting against cheat sites, fansites, and many others.

What im asking, is what do you like when you go on a site? so we can try and get more of a general site, as well as a top fansite?

what scripts or features would you like to see? We only get about 500 people per day on the site, we need to get a min of 3000 people, to even think about being a big site.

The site, is called, runehints, and if you can help, or give me advise, let me know.

You can find the site at, http://runehints.com

I do hope i got the right place here.

If you never heard of RuneScape, its a game where they have 1million active paying members, and millions of free members.

If you think, a new design would help, or something thats not related to the game, then, all that will help, and we will take it in mind

any questions? ill answer them to the best i can.

You, should, try, to, establish, a, community. I, think, the, players, have, enough, hints, and, tips.

Design and such don't drive traffic or keep visitors. You have to give them a reason to stay. Just "being about RuneScape" won't make the site stay successful.

What have you done so far in terms of publicising the site? People will not visit a site they cannot find or know nothing about.

I'd profile your audience with a survey. Find out what they like about your site and what they don't and act accordingly. Also I'd update your look and feel to something a bit more fresh (that is if your profiling shows your audience would respond to that). It's worth reading up on web usability, if you make the site easier to use people may be more fond of revisiting, if you can improve the site's loading time that would help as well, there's lots of stuff you can do to achieve that.

The main thing you want to go for is to get people to keep returning so you have to provide a reason for them to do that. A community is a great idea, this could be centered around a forum, blog, email newsletter, perhaps you could allow runescape player to create there own custom identity pages and interact or something a bit like myspace for runescape. Finally search for a gap in the market, surely there is certain information most site don't provide or is hard to find that you could, you could make that your site's specialty.

No offense to you, but another thing people like to see in a website is correct grammar, no matter if it's readable or not. Bad grammar will make your audience not want to come to your website, mostly because even if you can read it eventually, extra commas and the like can change the meaning of a sentence, and just make people not want to visit the website.

It should stop, bots from making spam posts, but it will require you to get some cash, which you can get from posting in, 2 forums.

The forums will be, Newbies corner, and News and anouncements.

Im going to try and cusomise a mod, that will enable you to show off your stats, on runehints forums, and only our forums.
That is right from your website, and in all honesty, it is painful to read.
It should look more like this:

In addition, funness is NOT a word, and I would have replaced it, except that that's up to you.
You should check out http://owl.english.purdue.edu/handouts/ ... comma.html.

Also, I have seen runescape, and being a medieval-ish type of game, maybe you should adjust your theme accordingly. The modern glow with black just doesn't seem to fit. Personally, I also don't want to have to scroll to the bottom of the page to read something, especially if it's 3 or 4 screens down. Try pagination.

I do like the bullets on the left hand side though :D Just not with the black.

Yeah, no offence man, but the grammar is terrible. The overuse of commas makes anything really hard to read!

 Yeah, lets work on that grammer ans spelling.

You could always get a designer, especially if you want your website to be original. If people think they've seen it before, they'll assume they've been there before and have no reason to be there now.

I'm guessing you're not English so I can partly understand the mistakes, although to be honest it comes across as lazy more than anything else.
