Hit me with your reviews! :)
Hi to all!
At last I've finished the alpha version of my site.
My project's goal is to give people as many free useful tools (for image, text editing etc.) as I can.
But some time ago I noticed some errors during image processing actions. And It's very hard for me to fix it without feedbacks (how an error or bug occurs).
So I'd really appreciate if you could test my site for functionality and also overall reviews.
Here it is:
AnyMaking.com
Section "Image workshop"
Thank you forward!

Re: Hit me with your reviews! :)
Very nice website. The design looks great and is intuitive. The image tools give great user feedback and also seem quite intuitive. [Un]fortunately I received no errors while processing any of my images (I'll go at it again with some different file formats and color depths and sizes). So since I have no errors to report, here's my breakdown of your Image Workshop:
- Add Border: I'm not sure if it's supposed to, it seems like it is trying anyways, but the border preview area does not preview the uploaded image with the borders on it. I would suggest if you're not actually loading the image into the border preview, make the "loading" icon cover the entire border area instead of just where the uploaded image would be.
- Crop Image: Works great. A nice added feature would be to allow the borders to be re-applied to the image after it's been cropped.
- Rotate Picture: You've called it Rotate Image everywhere else, I'd change the title here for standardization purposes. Works great, I'd recommend starting the background color at black instead of white, or put a black border around the color selector as on my browser it blends in 100% to the background area of the page. On that note, I'd just darken the color of the color selectors across the board. I see there is a border now, but I'm getting older and my vision isn't the best anymore...
- Image Mirror, Reflection: Works perfectly. Aside from the color selector border suggestion above, nothing but excellence here.
- Add Shadow: Perfect.
- Rounded Corners: Works well. I like the ability to select individual corners. As with the borders, I'd like to see the ability to have the drop shadow re-applied to the image after I've rounded the corners rather than having them be part of the final image. In this case, the rounded corners destroy parts of the drop shadow effect. Just a suggestion, feature works as advertised.
- Filters: Works great.
-Save as format: The feature to save as a different format is great. I would suggest if the user is saving as a lossy format that you enable user controls to set how much compression occurs. I converted my test png to a jpeg and it's overly blocky even at half the original dimensions.
Great work!

Re: Hit me with your reviews! :)
andyhoneycutt, thank you very much for such detailed comments and great suggestions about tools impovements!
If you have some time, please visit also "Photo effects" section for the review. Thanks!
By the way, what browser didn't allow you to differenciate the frame around colour picker? Or it was connected with the display settings?

I like the website, but before I can issue a definite thumbs-up, I need to have a basic idea of the back-end. Is it hardcoded, framework-based, modular, a CMS, or what?
[ed] D'oh, this is the UI area. *sigh*

Re: Hit me with your reviews! :)
AnyMaking was created with my own CMS, I'm currently developing. So, this web site is an opportunity for me to increase my coding skills.

It's not that it isn't there to see, it's just a very light color of border on my end. This may vary from user to user, browser to browser, display settings, etc., but I would recommend going with a darker gray (maybe #AAAAAA) just so it's easier to pick out on the screen.voidman wrote:By the way, what browser didn't allow you to differenciate the frame around colour picker? I'll take a look at your Photo Effects section here in a little while.

Re: Hit me with your reviews! :)
The photo effects are fun, and work very well. I would like to be able to go from the photo effects area to the image workshop and keep active the working image I was using in the photo effects area. Also, on the wanted poster, it would be nice if the user could also change the text "Wanted, Dead or Alive" to something of their choosing... I see you have this functionality built into the text on the reward area as well as the name area, so I think it should be editable on the top as well.
Cool stuff, and nice work!

Andy, thanks again for your review!
P.S. Sorry for my grammar mistakes. English is not my native language.
Are you talking about keeping active image with applying effect ("Old photo" / "Wanted poster") or original picture uploaded by customer?andyhoneycutt wrote:I would like to be able to go from the photo effects area to the image workshop and keep active the working image I was using in the photo effects area.

I'm talking about keeping the image active after applying photo effects such as the wanted poster. then you could take the wanted poster (still active) over to the other image tools and apply other effects.

The site is fast, and useful! I'm keeping it in my bookmarks!
Good job, and thanks!!

Thanks for your warm feedbacks!
Currently I'm fixing some minor bugs which were mentioned above.
_______________
I have an idea to add ability (for registered users) to "write" picture scripts.
For record the script user should do any image actions (common procedure) with any picture and save the action (as in Photoshop) to external file or inside his AnyMaking account ("Favorite scripts").
So if I (as customer) need to
1. Resize picture
2. Round it corners
3. Add border
4. Add shadow
5. And add reflection
for several pictures I'll just record the script (with some name) once and apply it to all my photos.
(functionally it will apply all 5 actions instantly in ~1 second)
Will it be useful for users? What do you think?

Re: Hit me with your reviews! :)
I think that sounds like a great feature. I for one would use a feature like that if I were putting together a photo album of some sort or wished to have a mass amount of images with the same effects applied.

Re: Hit me with your reviews! :)
I love it. It looks beautiful. But have you thought of having the background colour of the navigation links change colour, instead of having the links underlined? I always find it looks more professional. Especially if any letters of the links have tails. Seeing an underline cross over the tails looks untidy.
Edit: I tried to round the corners of a simple rectangle jpeg made in Paint, and all it did was remove the corners. Not round them.
